Fresh Start are delighted to now be in a position to offer Occupational Therapy assessments. Our Occupational Therapist, Jarrah Cooke, utilises a wide range of assessment tools to increase ones independent living skills. Jarrah performs a range of specialist assessments which have a focus on developing goals in relation to functioning in daily life, and offer a bespoke programme suitable for any individual - a selection of these assessments include;
Assessment of Motor and Process Skills - (AMPS)
The AMPS is an innovative observational assessment that is used to measure the quality of a person's activities of daily living (ADL). The quality of the person's ADL performance is assessed by rating the effort, efficiency, safety, and independence of 16 ADL motor and 20 ADL process skill items, while the person is doing at least two chosen, familiar, and life-relevant ADL tasks. There are more than 100 standardized ADL tasks available to be used in assessments.
The AMPS is a standardised functional assessment available to Occupational Therapists and research shows that it is able to detect changes through intervention and thus is an effective outcome measure.
Model of Human Occupation Screening Tool - (MOHOST)
The MOHOST addresses client's motivation for occupation, pattern of occupation, communication, process, motor skills, and environment. The MOHOST was designed to be used to document progress towards occupational therapy intervention goals as well as to screen for occupational therapy services.
It seeks to objectify the information a therapist gathers while screening for occupational therapy services. The MOHOST uses a variety of data collection methods (observation, self, career and staff reports) and is flexible enough to be used in a variety of intervention settings. Finally, the MOHOST uses language that enables therapist to communicate findings clearly with clients, their families, and other professionals.
Canadian Occupational Performance Measure - (COPM)
Is an individualized, client-centred measure designed to detect change in a client's self-perception of occupational performance over time. It is designed to be used as an outcome measure. The COPM can be used with clients affected by a variety of disabilities and across all developmental stages.
The COPM is a standardized instrument, in that there are specific instructions and methods for administering and scoring the test. It is designed as an outcome measure, with a semi-structured interview format and structured scoring method. Change scores between assessment and reassessment using the COPM are the most meaningful scores derived from this assessment.
The Beery - Buktenica Developmental Test of Visual - Motor Integration (Beery VMI Fifth Edition)
This is the standard test for assessing the respondent's level of visual-motor integration (VMI). It consists of a sequence of geometric forms of increasing difficulty that are copied on paper with a pencil by the respondent. The test can be administered in either the full or short version. The full version contains all 30 items and can be administered individually or in a group in 10-15 minutes to children or adolescents aged 2-18. The short version uses only 21 items and is better suited for children aged 2-7. It can be administered individually in less than 10 minutes.
Supplementary to the VMI are the tests of Visual Perception and Motor Coordination which are used if deficits are identified in the VMI. All the assessment results are compared and represented in relation to age specific norms.
